It’s March! My favorite month, because guess what happens on the 30th? My day of birth, yay!
Right now, I’m working on the re-launch of my brand Renae Cut Offs. Renae Cut Offs is my customized denim line for women. An extension of my own personal style, translated into the perfect, effortless, casual wear for women who have their own individual style and love to rock one of a kind threads. I’ll keep you updated on the re-launch date, but just expect a lot of greatness coming soon. I’m very excited about it.
Lately I’ve really been challenging myself to limit and eliminate distractions in my life. There’s so much to be done and in order to get the tasks checked off my list, I have to discipline myself and manage my time more efficiently. This includes time spent on extra-curricular activities, watching my favorite shows (hello Scandal, Empire & How to Get Away with Murder), checking in on my favorite blogs, and leisure time spent with friends. Oh, not to mention finding a balance between working out and eating healthy as much as I can. It’s just not realistic for me to work out 5 days a week right now, so starting off with 2-3 days for at least 20-30 minutes is sufficient enough for now and better than nothing at all. Can I get 5 minute abs for 100 Alex?
Oh, I took a two week social media hiatus not too long ago and man was it necessary for my peace of mind. You should try it. It’s easy to be brainwashed and distracted by social media today. Everything from Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Youtube, Snapchat … it is all consuming our minds and energy, distracting (you see this is the key word right?) us from what we should really be doing. Which is, whatever will further you in your life/career, beyond today’s gossip and what jeans made Kim K’s a** look plump today. Side eye.
So I challenge you to do the same. Think about some of the daily distractions in your life. What do you spend time doing during your down moments? During that idle time commuting to and from work everyday? Really think about it. Now, can it be toned down a notch or only designated for certain times, like on your lunch break or before bed? Why not try taking a hiatus for a couple of weeks like I did? To clear your head and get organized, be more productive, and get focused. Feels better already, doesn’t it?
Finally, I would like to take a minute to thank all of you for following the evolution of my blog and personal journey, as well as welcome all you newbies! It has been more than rewarding to share myself and my story with you and to help others get over challenging hurdles. My “Be Better” post, a personal testimony, has been my most popular and most shared post to date. I have received numerous emails, texts, and direct messages from women who were going through similar trying times as well as those who learned how to break free from them. My heart is filled with gratitude. For that alone, I say thank you.
But enough with the mushy stuff. I love you guys, don’t forget to challenge yourself this month! Watch what happens next because of it.
Signed, your favorite curly girl McKenzie Renae

Love this! Lately I’ve been feeling like I have too much on my plate and like I was being overzealous in thinking I could work full time, take evening classes, maintain my blog and a few freelance clients, and take good care of myself (mostly by eating healthy because working out definitely doesn’t fit into my schedule anymore). I almost started to think it just wasn’t possible and I needed to give some things up, but I know I just need to get my priorities straight like you did and eliminate the distractions. I spend too much time “unwinding” after work with my favorite shows, for one and social media has definitely been a time waster for me at times. I plan to definitely make some changes and get on the path of productivity, like, as your have. Thanks for this post and your honesty!
Keshia
That’s great Keshia! Once you balance your time better you will be able to get all of that done, maybe just not at the same time this next go around 😉 You got this!
